Fernando's Omaha has temporarily closed both its restaurant locations due to a staffing shortage after receiving request for worker documentation from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
A statement from the owner, Mitch Tempus, has been posted on the doors of the restaurants at 380 N. 114th St. and 7555 Pacific St. It said that the restaurants are temporarily closed "due to staffing issues related to a recent subpoena from Homeland Security."
The statement, which was also posted on social media, said the subpoena resulted in "the departure of some valued employees." Both locations are committed to returning to full operations as soon as possible, Tempus said.
In response to comments left on the Facebook page, the restaurant said there was "no raid at our business, no employees have been arrested, and all of our employees are home today and not working in the restaurant. For anyone that had provided us documents that did not pass the subpoena, by law we were forced to terminate their employment."
