SAAR means seasonally adjusted annual rate

There's a lot of spilled ink on the interwebs about how housing/shelter costs (rent and owner equivalent rent) are a lagging indicator in the CPI -- reflecting old rent leases much more than new leases which have been trending down. 2. Thanks. I heard on the radio this morning that rent increases were not as much as they used to be,

and that there were even decreases in a few cities.

I'm going to give that a separate thread.
