Quote for the Day:

The trendy deference toward religion also affected the supposedly liberal, mainstream press. It began offering unprecedented coverage of religion, taking care not to offend the faithful. A 1996 op-ed piece that I was invited to write for The New York Times on Hillary Clinton's "conversations" with Eleanor Roosevelt was cleansed of any irreverence toward established religion (although I was expected to mock New Age). I was not allowed to observe that while Mrs. Clinton was criticized for talking to Eleanor Roosevelt, millions of Americans regularly talk to Jesus, long deceased, and that many people believe God talks to them, unbidden. (At least Mrs. Clinton didn't believe that Mrs. Roosevelt answered back.)

Don't own much. Hedging yields some profits. As does short duration option flips. Very little in mutual funds, but what I do own is underwater. Emerging markets, particularly Asia, were noted as ready to pop by one analyst. Tech has been beaten up, but what do you expect? Who can fit more tech into their life, and who has the money for the latest?

Kick in to the DU tip jar?

This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.

As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
