He was a genuine Democratic Socialist - one more victim of US and Western interference

Under Manley, Jamaica established a minimum wage for all workers, including domestic workers. In 1974, the PNP under Manley adopted a political philosophy of Democratic Socialism. In 1974, Manley proposed free education from primary school to university.

I was in Kingston in 1977. People were optimistic as they were buying homes and wages were increasing. Businesses could also be created with government assistance. He was a great man for Jamaicans.
