Never thought to ask here...
Maybe you can help.
OK So for the last 6 months I have had the problem of no camera on my 2024 HP Envy Windows 11. I have uninstalled and installed it through the Device Manager, bought a new camera to attach with USB, tried to get the settings to work. The camera worked when I first got it.
Nothing. Nada. Nyet! Sometimes the camera is seen by a search, other times it is not seen. Often times trying to reinstall the camera, it says the camera is still there. I have followed instructions with HP, YT and other places about what it is, how to fix it, and why this happens, but their suggestions do not work. I have even tried reinstalling Windows 11 (on the top of the old one), but it says I am already up to date.
What else can I do? I need a camera for Zoom meetings and appointments. GAH!
TY so much if you have any other suggestions
Sincerely, Cat from Seattle

(9,167 posts)1. Try another computer. Plug in.
2. On your same computer, try making a separate user account. Plug in.
3. Is the USB cord attached ? If no, try another USB cord.
4. Try another USB port.
-------------- Meanwhile,
5. iPhone Zoom works adequately for me. If you need a test zoom link, I might have one.
6. What phone do you have ?
7. Or... a tablet ?

(9,167 posts)I can ask my Seattle friends for recommendations.
I believe Best Buy has adequate tech support -- for a price.

(412 posts)I also have an HP Envy older than your version. We have used the built in camera to attend public hearings by the Hawaii County Board of Commissioners without any problem. So, you might try to use the HP Support Assistant to test your camera and repair the driver if there is a problem with connectivity. Perhaps check your USB port too as a way to make sure it works as well (plug in a wired mouse or something to test it).
You might also check your security software to make sure there are no problems with the firewall and access. As a more drastic step, you can also use System Recovery in Windows to reinstall the operating system or parts of it (make sure to back up your files).

(19,641 posts)The 'old' device manager - it's mostly redundant now with Win 11 but is still there on your computer.
Open the Settings window and type into the Find a Setting box: Device Manager
A new window will open with the computer's device settings. The list may look a bit cryptic but work your way down to 'Imaging Devices'. This is where you should see the camera listed. If there is a strange mark (yellow I think) it means there is something wong with the device or driver.
You can enable/disable devices from this window, update drivers etc. This is the first place I would look to get an idea of what is going on. Good luck.
On Edit: Another thought. Back in the main settings window, go into Privacy & Security. Scroll down to 'App Permissions' then to Camera. Click to open settings and check it's set to On and let apps access your camera.

(2,629 posts)I have tried a couple of these like the Device manager ~ but I always checked the "camera" on the list and it says it is installed. I have uninstalled it and the m reinstalled it but nada it says it is there, but it is not in other places and I cannot use it. .
I have also bought a USB camera, but the computer does not see it ~ even after I go to its website and try to find a driver. Maybe they do not do that anymore if it's "plug and play."
The rest I will continue to explore and see what else works. I do live close to Seattle (in Kenmore) and near a couple Best Buys and yeah I may have to see if they can fix it, once I can afford that repair. I do have a desktop and can use it for Zoom stuff, so until then it suffices.
Again TY all so much! I was surprised to see all your posts. TY so much!
