Help with Paypal issue, please?

Hi All,

So, against my better judgment, I made a Paypal account and it worked fine for its intended purpose. Until it didn't as of last week.

It keeps asking me to add a card, but when I do, it tells me it's been added successfully, but that they cannot use it right now.

So I called Paypal yesterday & the lady told me it's because I'm in "Dominica." I told her I've not been out of the country in over 10 years and no way woud I create an account in another country. Then I asked her why now when it's been working fine over several weeks.

She giggle and said sometimes their system randomly checks things.

So she deleted my old account, I recreated a new one, making sure it had the American flag showing at the bottom, put in my card, and again having the same problem.

If I didn't owe a vendor money, I would write the whole damned thing off. Permanently. I've lived a lot of years without a Paypal account, now this mess...

Any ideas what's going on or how to resolve it? I've informed the vendor I will likely just have to mail a check and am happy to do so.

Has anyone else had such a problem? If so, how did you finally resolve it?

TYIA!

and you've checked to make sure your card hasn't been cloned or otherwise compromised? No strange charges. If you haven't checked to be certain, your next call is probably to your issuing bank or credit card company.

Paypal is still useful, but they are being targeted as much or more than any other company with phishing scams. Make certain you do not click on a link within a text or email that APPEARS to be from PayPal (the scams are good, so hover over the return address in an email to make sure and ignore the texts). An email from PayPal WILL be addressed to you and use your actual name, while the scams will not. BTW, any fake emails should be immediately forwarded to their scam department: phishing@paypal or spoof@paypal.

If all of the above is okay, then I guess it is PayPal, and I think you may need to talk to their security to find out what is going on. This is not normal.

TY so much.

I'll double check my bank account. The woman from Paypal only saw the charges against my card that I'd legitimately made.

TY!

If you haven't already, freeze your agency accounts. If you want to apply for a loan you'll have to unfreeze them.

Credit freeze: https://www.usa.gov/credit-freeze

From google:
Does credit freeze stop inquiries?
When you place a security freeze, creditors cannot access your credit report. This will keep them from approving any new credit account in your name, whether it is fraudulent or legitimate.

Can someone use my SSN if my credit is frozen?
AI Overview
Yes, someone can still potentially use your Social Security Number (SSN) even if your credit is frozen. While a credit freeze restricts access to your credit report, it primarily protects against new credit applications and doesn't prevent other uses of your SSN.
