I was irritated that the latest Chrome based browsers don't support uBlock Origin

It's may favorite ad blocking software because it blocks more than advertising. If there's something constantly annoying me on the web I can right-click it and remove it from my personal internet universe entirely.

An alternative version has been created to work with Chrome based browsers -- uBlock Origin Lite -- but it's not nearly so capable, functioning mostly to block a predefined list of sites.

There's a notice on the uBlock origin home page:

Understanding Manifest V3 and the Future of uBlock Origin

Published: 26 September 2024

With the advent of Manifest V3 (MV3), many users are concerned about the future of ad blockers like uBlock Origin. Manifest V3 is a significant update to the Chrome extension platform, introducing changes that impact how extensions interact with web content. Here's what you need to know about MV3, how it affects uBlock Origin, and what alternatives are available.

Of the "alternatives and solutions" I've switched to the Firefox browser.

Mostly I don't regularly visit sites where I can't make the ads go away by subscribing.

Ultimately I don't think ad blockers are the best solution to all the obnoxious (and sometimes dangerous) advertising on the internet. Unfortunately that's all I've go to make "surfing the web" a tolerable experience.

There's a firefox clone called Waterfox; lighter on resources etc, uses all firefox add-ons and is supposedly more secure. I use uBlock on this.

So they're getting shirty about people not wanting to watch advertising on their own computers? The ad -blocking people will always be right behind them. I'm so sick of people who want to steal MY time with their crap.
