Something strange happened
Running newest Windows, FireFox, & Thunderbird for email, had an email from my sister I was
going to reply to and when I hit the reply button my entire inbox disappeared and went to it's
set up page like I was a new user.
Couldn't find a way to get them back so I shut it down and restarted it, everything was there,
address books, sent emails, etc except the inbox was still empty, anybody ever see this happen?
Almost forgot , had gotten a couple emails that said nex-tech (my provider) was going to shut
down my email because it was out of date, but please click here to stop this. Called nex-tech
sure enough the email wasn't from them, they said they'd been seeing a lot of those scams and
just delete 'em which I did, and now they don't even have them. shrug:

I could understand something like this happening with IMAP - your mail is stored on a server. POP3 - the mail is physically downloaded and perhaps deleted off the server when you check. I've never, ever seen mailboxes vanish like that.
If your mail is IMAP. the messages are kept on the server and can be accessed by other devices and mail apps. A server-side glitch could have caused your mail to vanish briefly.

Sister just informed me someone has been adding viruses to her emails,
retired 40 year IRS employee.

(7,121 posts)right above the "Inbox" folder, you'll see "Server Settings" where it specifies the Server Type. Your ISP will tell you how to set that up for either for IMAP or POP3 access. The info should be on their website or support wiki page, or you can contact their support for the settings or to help walk you through that.
Can you see your messages if you access the account via WebMail?
Who is your ISP/Email provider?

(18,826 posts)When you set Thunderbird up, the default is IMAP. Unless you purposely changed it, that's probably what you're using.
Reading JoseBalow's post above, definitely check your email accoung via a web browser. You may find everything intact.

(18,826 posts)Of the company that is 'home' to your email account. It may be Gmail, Yahoo (if it still exists) or a Microsoft email. It also could be through your internet service provider. I can't say much about them - I'm in Australia.
But once you identify a company/website that handles your email, find a log-in page and make sure you have your user name (usually the email addy but could vary) and your password of course.
With a bit of luck that should let you into your email.

(7,121 posts)Try this:
Right-click on your inbox.
Choose "Properties."
Click on "Repair Folder."
Good luck!
