Why did Donald Trump really scrap trade talks with Canada?

On Thursday — mere hours before Trump cancelled the talks — Ottawa hit General Motors and Stellantis with tariffs in retaliation for reducing vehicle production in Canada.

Citing a source close to both the Canadian and U.S. governments, the Globe and Mail reported Friday that Canada's position on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and its consideration of China as a strategic partner also factored into Trump's move

In his social media posts slamming the Ontario ad, Trump drops a not-so-subtle hint of his own about something else that's really on his mind. “Canada is trying to illegally influence the United States Supreme Court in one of the most important rulings in the history of our Country," Trump said in a Friday morning post about the ad.

The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear arguments in November. If Trump loses, the tariffs he slapped on Canada and Mexico over fentanyl trafficking and illegal immigration would be quashed, along with what he likes to call his "Liberation Day" tariffs.

US business, which tRump does listen to, will not stand for a long suspension of talks.

Who drove Canada to seek trade with China? Canada had gone along with the US 100% tariffs on electric vehicles, despite have not much electric vehicle manufacturing.

Also, don't forget the Two Michaels. Canada, at the behest of the United States, arrested the Huawei CFO in Vancouver and kept her in house arrest for about a 1000 days while the US dithered about what to do. It cost Canada its canola exports to China, proportionately larger than US soybeans to China. Also, two Michaels, Canadian citizens, were arrested in China in retaliation and kept in horrific Chinese jails, while the US dithered.

As a country, Canada did this for its friend the United States. But tRump is a friend only to sycophants and suckers.

have to follow the deal we signed. Carney is too smart for that, he does not want any deal signed before the ruling.
