Trump blows up the notion his Canada talk was just a fleeting fancy

'I'm really not trolling,' he tells Time Magazine, of his dream to make Canada a state

There's been no shortage of speculation about how U.S. President Donald Trump's comments about Canada might impact the federal election.

It's now time to start asking a new, longer-term question: About how his attitude will impact Canada beyond Monday's election.

It now seems increasingly obvious that Trump's expansionist aspirations are no fleeting fancy. He kept quiet for a while, leading some to wonder whether he'd gotten it out of his system — that maybe he was just simply trolling our former prime minister, Justin Trudeau.

“Just how many American soldiers are you willing to get killed to add a single star to the American flag?”

The more you ask it, the more "currency" it gains. I've seen you make multiple posts like this.

Canada does not need even the vague threat of force against us. We have enough to deal with as it is.

I get your point that A) Canadians are tough enough that a war of conquest would have no real winner. B) The American public does not want a war of conquest against the Canadians.

But tRump is stupid and if an idea gets planted in his head he rolls with variations of it. The old relationship is over, but the military alliance is still strong.

Canada does not need the alliance weakened in any way.
The United States of America does not need the alliance weakened.
NATO does not need the alliance weakened.
The world does not need the alliance destabilized.
