Facing embezzlement charges, candidate for Town of Bergen clerk loses election bid
A Marathon County woman accused of embezzling more than $100,000 from the municipality she serves lost her bid in the Town of Bergen Clerk election Tuesday, despite being the sole candidate on the ballot.
Instead, the registered write-in candidate will be sworn into office.
Gloriann Doyle, 65, was charged March 25 in Marathon County Circuit Court with felony theft of movable property exceeding $100,000, seven felony counts of forgery, misconduct in office, and theft in a business setting valued between $10,000 and $100,000.
According to the criminal complaint, Doyle is accused of intentionally transferring funds from the Town of Bergen without authorization between July 1, 2024, and Jan. 20, 2025. Doyle allegedly forged seven checks between Oct. 12 and Dec. 10, 2024, falsely presenting them as authorized transactions. Additionally, Doyle faces a misconduct charge for allegedly exceeding her lawful authority in her position with the town.
