Melissa Agard wins election (again) for Dane County executive

With 100% of precincts reporting unofficial results in the April 1 election, Melissa Agard secured a four-year term to continue as Dane County’s top administrator.

Agard defeated challenger Stephen Ratzlaff, a DeForest salesman, about five months after winning a more competitive special election for the same job.

About 81% of the county’s voters Tuesday had cast ballots for Agard while Ratzlaff gained 19% of the vote. The margin exceeded Agard’s previous 23-point victory in November.

Dane County’s top administrator receives a $163,674 annual salary. The role includes signing or vetoing measures passed by the Dane County Board of Supervisors, managing county agencies, overseeing a $900 million budget, and appointing county agency leaders.
