Medical devices maker to close Mukilteo plant, move work out of US

A Bedford, Massachusetts-based medical devices manufacturer is shuttering its operations in Mukilteo and laying off dozens of employees.

Novanta Inc. (Nasdaq: NOVT) plans to close a 72,420-square-foot facility at 4600 Campus Place in Mukilteo, resulting in 83 job cuts, the company said in a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification filed with Washington state Thursday.

The layoffs are expected to begin on July 7 and continue through March 31 as the facility gradually winds down, according to the filing.

Of those affected, more than half are shop-floor employees such as technicians and assemblers, and eight are engineers or scientists. Meanwhile, 20 hold senior or lead management roles, which includes a vice president and general manager of the facility.
