Project SEARCH at Everett Public Schools offers path to the future

EVERETT — Before she was hired at Providence Regional Medical Center Everett, Mary Pham, 21, did a nine-month internship at the hospital.

She feels at ease in the linen department, often coming in behind her mentor to straighten up her work.

“It’s just my passion, I love to organize,” she said.

Pham is one of 10 students from Everett Public Schools who were a part of Project SEARCH last school year — a nonprofit in 10 countries and 48 states that provides internships for students with disabilities to find competitive employment. Since its start at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center in 1996, over 55,000 students have enrolled in the program.
