Meta lays off over 100 employees in Washington

Meta Platforms Inc. (Nasdaq: META) will lay off roughly 101 employees in Washington state as part of the tech giant's cuts in its artificial intelligence unit, the company confirmed Monday.

The layoffs will affect a range of roles, including software engineers, product managers, AI researchers and data scientists, according to an Oct. 22 state Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification filing.

Last week, the Menlo Park, California-headquartered social media giant told employees it would cut 600 people from its Superintelligence Labs unit with the goal to cut "organizational bloat" after three years of building up Meta's AI efforts too quickly, The New York Times reported, citing people familiar with the matter.

The layoffs are slated to begin Dec. 22.
