King County Assessor John Wilson will not seek reelection in 2026
King County Assessor John Arthur Wilson announced last week that he will not seek reelection, issuing a lengthy public apology and acknowledging that his actions toward his former fiancée, communications consultant Lee Keller, fell short of the standards of behavior he has always tried to uphold.
Wilsons statement comes months after Keller accused him of harassment and stalking, allegations that led him to suspend his campaign for King County Executive back in the summer prior to when ballots dropped. According to court records reviewed by The Seattle Times and KUOW, Keller sought a protection order in the spring, citing repeated unwanted contact and visits from Wilson following the end of their relationship.
In a public statement, Wilson said all civil actions between him and Keller have since been dismissed and emphasized that no criminal charges were filed. All civil actions related to Lee Keller and me have been dismissed, Wilson wrote. In addition, no criminal charges have been filed. I am greatly relieved that we can all move forward.
The announcement ends speculation about whether Wilson would pursue a fourth term as Assessor, a role he has held since the beginning of 2016.
