Kroger to Redmond residents: We closed your neighborhood Fred Meyer, but we still want your business
With little advance warning to residents of affected communities or the local elected officials who represent them, Ohio-based supermarket giant Kroger recently shuttered six Fred Meyer grocery stories across Western Washington employing over seven hundred union workers. One of those was the downtown Redmond Fred Meyer, which opened in 2002 and was located near the busy confluence of State Route 520 and Redmond Way, with a Target, Kohls, and Home Depot all nearby.
Just ahead of the stores last day of operations, mailers paid for by Kroger began landing in Redmond residents mailboxes inviting them to continue shopping for groceries at Fred Meyer, only in a different Eastside community that still has a Fred Meyer
for now.
Its not goodbye
its see you at our nearby stores, the front of the rectangular mailer reads. Your Redmond Fred Meyer store is closing, but we have everything you need at one of our other convenient locations near you.
The back of the mailer contains four coupons, each for ten dollars off a purchase of forty dollars or more, each for a different week. It also has a set of small maps highlighting the Fred Meyer locations in Totem Lake, Overlake, and Issaquah.
