Paving project will close I-5 lanes in Everett

EVERETT — Starting Saturday, paving repairs will force the overnight closure of four lanes on southbound I-5 through Everett.

The $8.1 million repairs will take place on a 4-mile stretch of southbound I-5 beginning at Broadway Avenue and ending at 100th Street Southeast, the Washington State Department of Transportation said. Crews will close four lanes of road that the agency said has deteriorated as more than 95,000 vehicles travel over it every day.

The paving project will improve the driving surface of the highway and allow crews to perform additional repairs, the department said.

The closures will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday through 9 a.m. on Sunday. After this weekend, crews will close four lanes between 7 p.m. and 4 a.m. on Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights. Two lanes will reopen at 4 a.m. those mornings before all lanes are reopened at 5 a.m.
