VA-AG: Virginia attorney general race most expensive on record: AdImpact

The 2025 Virginia attorney general race is slated to be the most expensive state attorney general race on record, according to the ad tracking company AdImpact.

A total of $36.8 million has been spent in the race so far, with Republicans spending $21.9 million and Democrats spending $14.9 million.

Last year’s attorney general race in North Carolina saw a total spend of $35.3 million, while $27.2 was spent in 2024 in the Pennsylvania attorney general race. In Texas’s 2022 race, $32.8 million was spent, and $19.2 million was spent in Illinois’s attorney general race in 2019.

The Old Dominion State race became arguably the most watched in the state’s off-year election after a texting scandal emerged involving Democratic nominee Jay Jones.
