Abilene firefighters plan block walking, election outreach in push for bargaining rights

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – Over the past couple of months, the Abilene Professional Fire Fighters Association and the Abilene City Council have been locked in an ongoing dispute over pay and benefits negotiations.

Now, we’re hearing from the president of the Fire Fighters Association, who said they’re taking on a new mission after feeling they were not given a fair seat at the table during the meet and confer agreement process.

errod Crockett, President of the Abilene Professional Fire Fighters Association, sat down with digital anchor Brittany Pelletz to share his frustrations with the process that led to this point. He said the traditional approach to reaching an agreement changed following personnel changes within the City of Abilene.

As a result, the Fire Fighters Association is now pursuing a process called “collective bargaining,” which will require at least 3,000 signatures from Abilene residents before it can move forward. Those signatures must be submitted to the city secretary by June 19.
