(9,533 posts)that we can and should do something about Climate Change. That would be a direct confrontation to the fossil fuel industry in most Texans minds. It is very similar to the gun issue - instead of looking at the problem or even admitting it is a problem - most people in Texas go to the extreme - claim that they are "taking away our guns" or in the case of Climate Change it the dominant claims seem to be "it is God's will" or "it's always been hot around here" or "They will come up with something (technology)".
It is really sad. Our water is in a crisis, our air is filthy, the oil and gas industry controls the narrative and even as our quality of life goes down, we continue to push for growth, and speak of the environmentalists as "liberal wackos".
I think it is a lost cause...and maybe not just in Texas. We like to talk about how we "come together" after a disaster and how we are "resilient people" but as the OP mentioned do little or nothing in terms of prevention. The fossil fuel industry with it's jobs and political control is in control of our government at the local, state, and federal level. This will continue and our children and grandchildren will have to live or die with results.
