SA mayoral race: Gina Ortiz Jones (D) notches endorsements from 2 former mayors
SAN ANTONIO As San Antonio continues marching towards a pivotal June 7 runoff that will decide the city's next mayor, one candidate is starting to collect endorsements from those she would work closest with if elected.
District 2 City Councilman Jalen McKee-Rodriguez and District 4 Councilman-elect Edward Mungia confirmed to KENS 5 that they're supporting former Air Force Under Secretary Gina Ortiz Jones in her mayoral runoff contest against Rolando Pablos, who previously served as Texas secretary of state under Gov. Greg Abbott. So is District 3 Councilwoman Phyllis Viagran, who said on social media that Ortiz Jones "understands the issues that are important" to her constituents.
Ortiz Jones also touted an endorsement from District 5 Councilwoman Teri Castillo, but Castillo's office hasn't confirmed that to KENS 5.
Still, the endorsements give Ortiz Jones an edge in the runoffan edge sharpened by additional endorsements from former San Antonio Mayors Julian Castro and Phil Hardberger.
