Highland Oaks annexation on Nov. ballot, homeowners worried about annexation moving forward

LUBBOCK, Texas — Some residents in the Highland Oaks neighborhood, which currently sits in Lubbock County, are asking to be annexed into Lubbock city limits. Ultimately, it will be up to neighbors to vote on whether the annexation happens or not.

The reason some homeowners in the neighborhood want to be annexed into the city is because they are running out of well water and an annexation would give them access to the city’s sustainable water resources. It would solve their problem.

However, not all neighbors are on board. EverythingLubbock.com spoke with Highland Oaks resident Belinda Kay on Tuesday, who said she’s completely against it.

“We do not fit in their equation. We do not belong in their equation. We don’t want to be part of their equation,” Kay said.
