Election ballot includes error on ballot question for new Luzerne County charter
WILKES-BARRE Luzerne Countys Nov. 4 election ballot includes unauthorized words and omits authorized words at the end of the ballot question asking voters to approve or deny a new home-rule charter for governing the county.
The error is not substantial and de minimis, which means lacking significance or importance, Assistant County Solicitor Gene Molino said during the election board meeting on Wednesday night. Its too late for the election bureau to place the correct form of the question on the ballot-marking machines that will be installed at polling locations on Nov. 4, Director of Elections Emily Cook said.
The bureau also has distributed mail ballots with the incorrect question to 25,000 voters and received 5,000 mail ballots with votes, Cook said.
The incorrect question on the election ballot says the following: Shall the Home Rule Charter of Luzerne County be repealed and the form of government recommended in the report of the Government Study Commission, dated July 28, 2025, be adopted as authorized by the Home Rule Charter form of government?
