Voters still have time to mail in ballots, get assistance for Oregon special election on Tuesday

OREGON, USA — With Oregon’s special election just days away, county officials are encouraging voters to drop off or mail in their ballots as soon as possible.

As typically seen in special elections, voter turnout remains low in some counties, including Multnomah and Clackamas, ahead of the Tuesday, May 20 election.

As of this weekend, Multnomah County reported a turnout of 12.1%, while Clackamas County reported just 11.4%.

“Special district elections can be anywhere between 16% turnout up to 40% turnout,” explained Tim Scott, Multnomah County’s director of elections. "The way things are headed right now — unless we get a big surprise on Monday and Tuesday — we'll probably end up around 21% turnout."
