Mass layoffs at Bonneville Power Administration raise concerns about reliability of power grid

"PORTLAND, Ore. — The Portland-based Bonneville Power Administration could lose nearly 20% of its workforce because of President Donald Trump’s effort to shrink the size of the federal government."
"A former administrator of the BPA warned that the job losses could leave the Pacific Northwest in the dark due to unplanned outages.

“This affects every citizen in the Northwest in a major adverse way," said Randall Hardy, former BPA administrator from 1991 to 1997. “We're putting a significant lights-out risk for virtually every customer in the Northwest, particularly those in Oregon and Washington."

BPA workers literally keep the lights on in the Pacific Northwest. The BPA owns and runs 75% of the high voltage transmission in the region and provides 30% of the power."
