Stark Board of Elections removes Ohio House candidate from ballot

A Democratic candidate for a statehouse seat was removed from the primary election ballot in Stark County because he doesn't live in the district.

Brian Sommers had sought to run for Ohio's 50th House District and was certified by the county elections board at its meeting Feb. 17.

But Sommers doesn't live within the boundaries of the 50th District, which covers numerous communities, including Canal Fulton, East Canton, Massillon Minerva and Waynesburg. He lives in Jackson Township in the 49th District close to the boundary.

The elections board received an inquiry from a voter March 18 alerting them of the issue. Staff at the Board of Elections immediately launched an investigation and removed him on March 19.
