New Hanover County elections director suspended, board chair says
WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) - The New Hanover County Board of Elections has placed its elections director on administrative suspension with pay.
DeNay Harris was suspended Thursday, March 19, pending “further review,” according to a statement from Jamie Getty, chair of the board.
“The elections director has been placed on non-disciplinary administrative suspension with pay, pending further review. As this is a confidential personnel matter, we are unable to provide additional details,” Getty said in a statement to WECT on Friday, March 20.
In a phone call Friday following report of her suspension, Harris told WECT her suspension was retaliation for speaking out against alleged misconduct by county manager Chris Coudriet.
