Sherburn (D) leads Aiello (R) in fundraising ahead of Olean mayoral election

OLEAN — The financial situation of both mayoral candidates has flipped after an upset in the June Republican primary.

Amy Sherburn, who secured the Democratic and Republican nominations for mayor, collected $8,626.17 in the period between July 15 and Oct. 3, while incumbent Mayor Bill Aiello received $1,300 in his independent run to retain his office for a fourth term.

Sherburn defeated Aiello in the June primary for the GOP nod, 310-219.

By comparison, Aiello entered the primary election with about $5,900 in donations, while Sherburn received $1,041 plus a $1,000 in-kind donation during that period.
