Frank Carone Reportedly Urging Adams to Endorse Cuomo in Mayoral Election
Eric Adams is being pressured by one of his closest advisors to endorse Andrew Cuomo in the mayoral election, according to sources who spoke to The Daily News. The report states that since the incumbent mayor dropped his bid for reelection late last month, longtime political ally and former chief of staff Frank Carone has urged him to publicly declare his support for the former governors campaign.
The report notes that it is unclear whether or not Cuomo himself is involved in the pressure campaign on the incumbent mayor, though Carone, who was Adams campaign chairman, immediately confirmed that he was actively fundraising for Cuomo right after the mayor called it quits.
While Adams has not endorsed any of the remaining candidates, he did urge New Yorkers to choose leaders not by what they promised, but what they have delivered in his video statement announcing the suspension of his reelection campaign, a statement which would appear to favor the veteran Cuomo over the relatively inexperienced Zohran Mamdani or Curtis Sliwa.
When he was still fighting to retain his office, however, Adams had some choice words for Cuomo. Speaking at a press conference in June, he spoke of his distaste for a politician that puts a finger in the air and sees where the wind is blowing, going on to list a litany of examples that made it clear he was talking about the former governor. In the same briefing, he declared his disagreements with Mamdani, but respected the fact that hes true to who he is.
