Cuomo to run on independent line in November mayoral election even if he wins Democratic nod
Former Gov. Andrew Cuomo plans to run on an independent “Fight and Deliver” ballot line regardless of the results of the Democratic primary, his campaign announced Tuesday — a move that could either provide a back-up option or boost his candidacy in the November mayoral election.
Cuomo said in a statement he made to move to appeal to voters who feel the Democratic party “has been hijacked.”
“This November, in addition to securing the Democratic nomination, my campaign will work to build the largest possible coalition and secure the biggest possible mandate,” he said. “We will be responsive to those who want to support my candidacy, but who would like an alternate way to do it, by starting the Fight and Deliver Party to appeal to disillusioned Democrats, as well as to independents and Republicans.”
In the past, Cuomo has run on multiple ballot lines, including the Independence Party, the Women’s Equality Party, which he started, and the Working Families Party.
