Jimmy Oliver becomes fourth Democrat to file Syracuse mayoral election petitions
Syracuse, N.Y. — The potential Democratic primary ballot for Syracuse mayor continues to fill up.
Jimmy Oliver, community engagement director for the Syracuse Police Department, filed petitions Wednesday with the Onondaga County Board of Elections containing 1,258 signatures of registered party voters living in the city. He’s the fourth Democrat to turn in the paperwork required to get on a primary ballot.
Of the candidates who have filed petitions since the period for turning them in started on Monday, Oliver has the fewest signatures. Deputy Mayor Sharon Owens has submitted 2,952 signatures, with Syracuse Common Councilor Pat Hogan at 1,855 and Common Councilor Chol Majok at 1,691. Hogan is the Onondaga County Democratic Committee’s endorsed candidate.
A fifth potential Democratic contestant, Alfonso Davis, said this week that he’ll also be filing for the party primary. The deadline to turn in party designating petitions is 5 p.m. Thursday.
