NE-AG: Jocelyn Brasher (D) enters Nebraska AG race, squares off with former boss
OMAHA An Omaha lawyer who once worked in the Nebraska Attorney Generals Office battling consumer fraud and unfair trade practices is challenging her former boss as the states top civil and criminal attorney.
Jocelyn Brasher, a lifelong Nebraskan, spent five years as an assistant attorney general, including about nine months of that under the leadership of Attorney General Mike Hilgers, a Republican and former state senator.
She left that role, which had her also heading multistate investigations, to prosecute crime as a deputy Dodge County attorney. Most recently, Brasher, 35, was in private practice. Earlier, she led the child support enforcement division in the Dawson County Attorneys Office in Lexington.
A Democrat, Brasher said her decade-long legal career in prosecutorial positions prepared her for the elected office that she says should be independent and principled and argues has been dragged down in recent years by partisan politics.
