Half-cent sales tax increase on ballot in Norfolk

NORFOLK, Neb. (KCAU) — Norfolk police are looking for approval of a half-cent sales tax increase to expand and renovate the current police station.

Voters will weigh in on the issue next month. The tax is intended to generate about $15.6 million over four years. The current local option sales tax is 1.5 percent.

Police are looking to improve areas used for cleaning firearms and maintaining secure storage. A multi-purpose classroom and training area are also planned. Funding also would go toward street repairs in Norfolk.

If voters say yes, construction on the police station could begin next year and may be complete in two to three years.
