Group abandons Michigan minimum wage ballot campaign

Lansing — A group seeking to reverse changes the state Legislature made last year to Michigan's tipped and minimum wage laws is abandoning its efforts for now.

One Fair Wage had sought to collect enough signatures to place a referendum vote on the November ballot, but was unable to meet their signature goals. Instead, the group said, it planned to throw its efforts behind a separate ballot initiative seeking to limit certain political contributions.

One Fair Wage was attempting to undo a law signed by Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer in February 2025 that scaled back increases in the minimum wage for workers who receive tips. It needed 223,099 valid signatures to put the question on the ballot in November.

The group said it will continue to call on the Legislature to reverse the minimum wage changes they made in February 2025; and, if they don't act, "the will of the voters and working Michiganders will prevail at the ballot box."

They protested in Lansing. Insane. They were literally protesting against themselves getting higher wages. The propaganda is so strong that it gets people to literally fight for less for themselves and their families so that the rich can have more.

There was some provision about not being able to fire someone who is a no call no show that was poorly worded, so these people took that and ran with it that it prevented people from ever losing their jobs. The one girl is my bartender and she was convinced the higher wage meant she would no longer make tips because people wouldn't tip because they knew they were making more money now, "I explained to her that will affect approximately 0% of her customers, we were still going to tip just the same."

I am convinced that if the rich told them to, there's a portion of the working poor in American who would fight for the right to die if it made the rich richer.
