Three Sherwood High School students involved in fatal car accident, MCPS says

A 17-year-old Sherwood High School student is dead after a car crash in Sandy Spring Wednesday morning, according to Montgomery County officials.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) crews were dispatched to 17505 Norwood Road around 8 a.m. for the report of a car crash with “multiple patients,” according to radio transmissions. A responding MCFRS unit arrived on scene and confirmed on the radio that there was “a single car into a tree” and that patients were pinned. An investigation revealed that a vehicle collided with a wooden light pole, according to a news release from Montgomery County police.

The first patient extricated was a priority 4, according to radio transmissions, which according to Maryland Medical Protocols means a patient “does not require medical attention” and is commonly used to note someone who is dead. Montgomery County police later confirmed in a news release that the 17-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name will be released by police upon notification of next of kin.
