Mainers who broke barriers energized and organizing for Harris
When Marpheen Chann was door knocking in Portland for a city council race last week, he saw a cardboard sign that said “Kamala” written in crayon.
It wasn’t flashy, but Chann — who will be a delegate for Maine at the Democratic National Convention later this month — saw meaning in its simplicity.
“It got me to pause and think that so many young people have hope in the future of America,” he said.
Maine Morning Star talked with several Mainers from diverse communities, many of whom also broke barriers by serving in public office, about their feelings regarding Kamala Harris, who is now the sole candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination and if elected would be the first woman president.
