Orleans Parish assessor wins reelection after four decades in office

After four decades in office, Orleans Parish Assessor Erroll Williams successfully defended his seat against the three challengers vying for his job.

Williams, 76, won about 61% of the vote with all precincts reporting.

"I would like to thank the people of New Orleans for putting their faith in me to serve another term as your assessor, " Williams said. "I remain committed to the mission of providing fair and equitable assessment practices delivered in a professional and courteous manner."

Challenging him were Tulane professor and real estate development consultant Casius H. Pealer III, who won 28% of the vote; estate lawyer Earl "Jay" Schmitt Jr., who won 8%, and former professional football player Coreygerard Dowden, who notched 2%.
