Holton Community Hospital seeking support from Jackson Co. voters this upcoming election

HOLTON, Kan. (WIBW) - For 87 years, Holton Community Hospital has served Jackson County without any public tax support, but as of earlier this year, the hospital board says that approach is no longer sustainable.

On Nov. 4, Jackson County voters will decide whether to impose a countywide quarter percent retailer’s sales tax to fund hospital operations.

“We want our services and we want Holton Hospital to be here for years to come,” CEO Carrie Lutz explained. “This is an investment in securing that it is.”

Financial challenges forced Holton Community Hospital into a tough decision to sell its health and hospice services last year. Now the hospital is sounding the alarm about the possibility of cutting additional services if sufficient funding isn’t secured.
