Illinois April 1 election: Rock Island mayor loses reelection, Whiteside County passes public safety tax

MOLINE, Ill. — Illinois voters made their voices heard on Tuesday, April 1, for the 2025 consolidated election.

Several local leadership positions were up for election, along with numerous ballot measures concerning education and public safety. Here are the results of some key races and measures News 8 was tracking.

Michael "Mike" Thoms will not be serving a third term as Rock Island mayor after losing re-election to Ashley Harris. It was a tight race, with Harris beating Thoms by just 150 votes, according to the unofficial results.

Harris works at John Deere Seeding. His campaign revolved around being a breath of fresh air for city government, promising transparency and accountability.
