Multiple River Bend board members plead guilty to election offense

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Two former River Bend board members pled guilty to an election offense Thursday and have entered into a diversion agreement as a result.

Jessica Caswell and James Hoppe, each originally charged with one count of a Class 1 Election Offense for willfully providing false documentation for voter registration and one count of filing false documents, formally admitted they were actually ineligible to be on the ballot. Both failed to meet the residency requirement to run for the Board of Trustees for the Village of River Bend.

Both Caswell and Hoppe will pay a $1,300 fine for the misdemeanor election offense they pled guilty to. They both also agreed to a five-year diversion agreement that includes neither being allowed to seek any local, state or federal elected office, or any appointments to boards or committees associated with local, state or federal government.

Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson said both defendants must follow the court’s conditions to not contact Village of River Bend officials, the Jackson County Election Board and witnesses associated with the case.
