Yes, he was a Republican - with a capital R. One of the last vestiges of an Illinois Republican. He and Jim Edgar are the last Republican governors IL will ever see. Rauner <spit> is a republican - small r meaning what passes for what's passes for that party these days. I never voted for him or Edgar but I never felt either were wingnuts.
