Two cops killed and five houses burned. A landlord was evicting a tenant who stabbed her, then shot two cops dead, set a fire that burned his neighbors and barricaded himself in the house.
I hope he's not out and about but nobody knows yet.
Jesus.

Update: 12 houses. Holy Moses.
So, searching Hoohiki and E court kokua, this guy has had tons of restraining orders and at least one criminal assault charge, 11k bail, since 2014. So, don't rent to someone with lots of restraining orders, I guess?
This is one of those neighborhoods with the charming 1920s craftsman kind of houses that we all wish we could live in, a little more graceful, little more neighborly, a reminder of a kinder time- a respite from the concrete towers. Gone, along with the precious lives of two HPD. Tears for the families.

(19,756 posts)HPD said earlier he probably roasted. I mean died in the fire he set. Two females are also unaccounted for.
The StarAdvertiser edited their story tonight to include this text:
The suspect, 69-year-old Jerry J. Hanel, is presumed dead inside the home at 3015 Hibiscus Drive, but police have yet to recover his body, Ballard said. HPD continues an active search for Hanel until his body is recovered, she said.
As it happens a friend of mine is a HFD investigator. He smells like smoke many days. He doesnt work much with the remains of persons generally though, for which Im thankful today.
