A Hawaiian take on the tiny house movement?

I was having a Facebook discussion with one of my Hawaiian activist friend's friends. I noted that many Hawaiians who are houseless claim they're just "living the way their ancestors did", but that said ancestors had a hale in which they stored stuff and slept in when it rained. Then it struck me: such a hale would be a lot like what we on the mainland would call a "tiny house"! Perhaps a collection of them could be built somewhere mauka, perhaps on DHHL land, and people could use them as they saw fit. Thoughts?
