DeSantis, lawmakers continue push for restrictions on Florida citizen petition process

Gov. Ron DeSantis helped defeat two proposed state constitutional amendments in November, one to enshrine a right to an abortion and another to legalize recreational marijuana.

Now, he’s targeting the procedure that put them on the ballot – the citizen petition process itself.

Pointing to a series of fraudulent petitions submitted by groups pushing ballot measures in recent election cycles, detailed in the Office of Election Crimes and Security’s annual report, DeSantis believes new restrictions are needed to thwart bogus petitions.

His GOP colleagues running the Legislature are heeding his call. Two bills began advancing in the House and Senate this week to impose new, strict measures on those gathering and submitting petitions and on the groups paying for petition drives.

They really don't care about what the voters want, do they?
