Flood risk continues in DC region with wet forecast ahead

https://wtop.com/weather-news/2025/05/parts-of-dc-area-under-flood-watch-to-start-week-full-of-expected-wet-weather/

Steady rainfall continues in the D.C. region through Tuesday evening with showers expected to die down overnight.

The downpours have made for flooding in parts of the D.C. area. Heavy rain could affect the evening commute Tuesday.

“Moderate to heavy rain could may lead to ponding or high water on area roadways,” 7News First Alert Senior Meteorologist Brian van de Graaff said.

Virginia, D.C. and a large portion of Maryland are under a flood watch from until Wednesday morning.

High winds are also a concern with gusts expected to reach up to 25 mph.

There could be rumbles of thunder are Tuesday night amid scattered showers, some of which could linger through Wednesday.

“Temperatures will stay in the 60s, but it will be very humid. There may be a few rumbles of thunder this afternoon or tonight, but severe weather threats are very low today,” van de Graaff said.

The rain is providing some relief to persistent drought conditions in the D.C. area.

It's been coming down hard over here. Low lying areas by the river often flood in these situations.
