(78,484 posts)..... on my DC work trip last month I stayed at the Crystal Gateway Marriott, which is connected to the underground mall. It was an all-day ghost town. When I first stayed there in the early 2000s it was bustling, particularly around rush hours.

(48,849 posts)so that mall got plenty of new competition from above ground options offering sunlight. Then there are more remote workers these days so they would get less of the lunchtime office crowd.

(48,849 posts)not a complete joke. The metro stations near the Pentagon have experienced flooding and closures during heavy rainstorms.
