Our house, in the Westville section of New Haven, is on sale for the high $300,000's. We bought it for $155k

We had a zoom meeting with our realtors, who earlier visited the property, and made a little video of it. They made a good presentation to us. Basically, we are in a sellers' market, our house having "high demand, low inventory." It's a 3 BR, 1 &1/2 bath, prewar Colonial. There are currently no comparable houses on the market. That's great. But at my age moving all our stuff (what we ARE taking) seems like a huge undertaking.

We are going to a Masonicare facility in Wallingford. Our apartment, while a 2 BR, 2 Bath, can't fit all of our furniture in. Fortunately, we have a moving company who will take on the job of sending our excess furniture to Goodwill. My daughters are overseeing this, mostly by supervising the movers (and talking me out of keeping "stuff&quot . I have a house cleaner who is showing no mercy on my saving old clothes and chatchkas (sp.?) scattered on my built in bookshelves. It's a bit of a nightmare selling "stuff" that I have fond memories of.

You get the picture.

If you have an interest in anything and are close enough to come and get it, let me know here on DU. I have a stationary exercise bike with adjustable difficulty levels that I won't be taking because I have plenty of opportunity for exercise at Masonicare.

Not close enough to load the station wagon. I wonder why they called them a "station wagon". I guess the idea was you were picking up people from the trains?

The term evolved. Wagoneer, Wagovan.

Must be nice to have affairs managed by others.

Older daughter is taking this on and she lives in Boston. She designs gardens for folks in Edgartown and Chappaquiddick Island. Son in NYC is a very busy prosecutor in the Brooklyn DA's office. My other daughter is working in the Hollywood community but is helpful with spreadsheets and math. Their dad (my ex) has passed away. My now and forever hubby's daughter is a very busy rabbi on Long Island..

Thank you for the spelling, tchotchke. What a word!

4. Good idea to get into a Continuing Care Community

I had to place my Mom in assistive living. Scaling down the house and moving her into her local Masonic Home would have been better to have had her part of the downsizing.

6. One of the great things about living there is that when you get old and need Assisted Living you can transfer there.

My mother was able to live to 92 in a similar arrangement. We are in our mid 80s.

The phrase is Continuing Care Retirement Community which are different than Assistive living or Skilled Nursing only.

5. Please think about using Habitat for Humanity instead of Goodwill.

Goodwill is a for profit business paying their execs millions each per year. Habitat sends all profits to helping house people.

Here's the information on how to donate stuff, and number to call to schedule a pickup: https://fairfieldcountyrestore.org/donate/.

I'm looking for a coffee table, and would be willing to drive to New Haven to pick up, if you have one and I like it.

Habitat usually will pick up anything you give them. There are several in CT., I only looked up New Haven. I'm in NC so I'm not sure what others might be closer.
