Recount likely in Mountain Village election
Elections have a way of continuing on beyond Election Day, or even election season in the Telluride region, and the results of last weeks Mountain Village municipal election proved to be no exception.
Two developments are currently unfolding in the wake of the election for Mountain Village Town Council members and the six questions appearing on the ballot only five of which were counted.
It should come as no surprise that a recount has been requested in the Town Council election. With three seats up for election, incumbent Rick Gomez came in first with 234 votes, fellow-incumbent Harvey Mogenson was second with 189 votes, and Alline Arguelles won the third seat with 152 votes. Heather Knox was the runner-up with 151 votes.
Although the one-vote margin was not close enough to trigger an automatic recount as dictated by state law, the candidates have the right to request a recount, and Knox has done so. The Town Clerks office is preparing for the recount, but when a recount is requested by a candidate, the candidate is responsible for paying for the process, and Knox has not yet confirmed that she will cover the cost, estimated at $362.
