Related: About this forumSierra road closures tomorrow?? We are hiking around Mammoth Lakes and were going to stay till
Tuesday. However, we are getting spotty reports that Tioga and Sonora passes are closing mid day monday...until Thursday. Four of our group go back to the Bay Area that way. So if the reports are accurate, they will have to leave a day early.
Seems very unusual those major routes across the Sierras would close for that amount of snow.
Does anyone know the reports to be true? And if so, do the closures have something to do with the shutdown/emergency response/forecasting??
Disappointing

(667 posts)It's supposed to clear up by Wednesday afternoon on the 80.
Edited to add: I used to live in Mammoth years ago and the tioga pass can be bad when icy.

(36,792 posts)I don't think those closures are unusual for this time of year. Snow comes early on the high passes. Won't be long until most of them are closed for the year.
